The Martha Maher-Garcia

The Martha Maher-Garcia Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit organization established in 2016 in honor of Martha Maher-Garcia, a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, leader in the workplace and Rochester, New York community and warrior in her seven-year battle with cancer.

The Foundation seeks to pay tribute to Martha's legacy of kindness, perseverance, and hope through its threefold mission of raising money to fund scholarships for college students, providing financial resources to families affected by cancer, and supporting innovative research into a discovery of a cure for breast cancer.  

The cornerstone of the Foundation’s mission is to provide scholarships for students studying at Monroe Community College, located in Rochester, New York, through the Martha Maher-Garcia Memorial Scholarship. Created by and offered through the MCC Foundation, the Scholarship works to support deserving students attending MCC, who, like Martha, decided to pursue higher education to provide a better future for their families.  Scholarship recipients are selected by the MCC Foundation based on a variety of objective criteria, with special consideration given to mothers working while attending MCC.
